Subscription Terms

1. Introduction

These Subscription Terms ("Subscription Terms") govern your subscription to Regulus ("Service"), an AI-powered UK tax guidance platform. These terms form part of our Terms of Use and should be read together with our Privacy Policy.

2. Subscription Plans

2.1 Available Plans

Regulus offers the following subscription tiers:

Standard Plan

Pro Plan

£50/month

  • • 650 questions per month

  • • Email support

2.2 Plan Selection

You can select your preferred plan during registration. Plans can be upgraded or downgraded at any time from your subscription settings.

3. Billing and Payment

3.1 Billing Cycle

All subscriptions are billed on a monthly recurring basis. Your billing cycle begins on the date you subscribe and renews automatically each month on the same date.

3.2 Payment Methods

We accept payment via credit card or debit card. All payments are processed securely through Stripe, our payment processor. We do not store your full card details on our servers.

3.3 Automatic Renewal

Your subscription will automatically renew at the end of each billing cycle unless you cancel before the renewal date. You will be charged the then-current subscription fee for your selected plan.

3.4 Price Changes

We reserve the right to change our subscription prices. We will provide you with 30 days' advance notice of any price increases via email. Price changes will not affect your current billing cycle but will apply to subsequent renewals.

If you do not accept a price increase, you may cancel your subscription before the new price takes effect.

3.5 Taxes

All prices are exclusive of applicable taxes (including UK VAT). Taxes will be calculated and added at checkout based on your billing address. Invoices showing applicable taxes will be provided via email and in your account.

4. Failed Payments

4.1 Payment Failures

If your payment method fails, we will:

  1. Send you an immediate notification email
  2. Immediately suspend your account access
  3. Attempt to charge your payment method again (Stripe handles automatic retries)

4.2 Account Suspension

If payment fails, your account will be immediately suspended and you will lose access to the Service. Your conversation history will be retained for 90 days in case you wish to reactivate by updating your payment method.

4.3 Updating Payment Information

You can update your payment method at any time through your billing portal. We recommend keeping your payment information up to date to avoid service interruptions.

5. Question Credits

5.1 Monthly Allocation

Question credits are allocated at the start of each billing cycle:

  • Standard: 250 questions per month
  • Pro: 650 questions per month
  • Business: 1500 questions per month

5.2 Credit Expiry

Unused credits do not roll over to the next billing cycle. Credits reset to your plan's allocation at the start of each new billing cycle.

5.3 Exceeding Your Allocation

If you reach your monthly question limit:

  • You will not be able to ask additional questions until your next billing cycle
  • You can upgrade to a higher plan to gain immediate access to more credits
  • Your conversation history remains accessible in read-only mode

5.4 What Counts as a Question

Each message you send to the AI assistant counts as one question. Follow-up questions in the same conversation count as separate questions.

6. Plan Changes

6.1 Upgrading Your Plan

You can upgrade to a higher plan at any time. When you upgrade:

  • You will be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of your current billing cycle
  • Your new plan and credit allocation take effect immediately
  • Your next billing date remains the same

6.2 Downgrading Your Plan

You can downgrade to a lower plan at any time. When you downgrade:

  • The change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle
  • You continue to enjoy your current plan benefits until the end of the cycle
  • No refund is provided for unused credits or time
  • Your next bill will reflect the new, lower plan price

7. Cancellation

7.1 How to Cancel

You can cancel your subscription at any time from your subscription settings. No reason is required, and cancellation is immediate.

7.2 Effect of Cancellation

When you cancel:

  • Your subscription will remain active until the end of your current billing cycle
  • You will not be charged for subsequent billing cycles
  • You retain access to the Service until the end of your paid period
  • Your conversation history will be retained for 90 days in case you wish to reactivate
  • After 90 days, your data will be permanently deleted (except legally required records)

7.3 No Refunds

⚠️ Important: All subscription payments are non-refundable.

We do not provide refunds or credits for partial months, unused credits, or early cancellation. This policy applies even if you cancel immediately after subscribing.

7.4 Exceptions

Refunds may be considered in exceptional circumstances, such as:

  • Duplicate charges due to technical error
  • Unauthorized charges (subject to verification)
  • Service unavailability for extended periods

To request a refund exception, contact support@regulus.ai with your account details and reason.

7.5 Reactivation

You can reactivate a cancelled subscription at any time within 90 days. After reactivation:

  • Your subscription resumes immediately
  • You are charged for the new billing cycle
  • Your conversation history is restored
  • Credit allocation resets to your plan's allocation

8. Free Trials

8.1 Trial Availability

From time to time, we may offer free trial periods for new users. Trial availability and duration will be clearly communicated at the time of sign-up.

8.2 Trial Terms

If you sign up for a free trial:

  • You must provide valid payment information
  • You will not be charged during the trial period
  • Your subscription will automatically begin and you will be charged at the end of the trial period
  • You can cancel anytime during the trial to avoid being charged
  • Free trials are limited to one per user and may not be combined with other promotions

9. Promotional Offers and Discounts

9.1 Promotional Codes

We may occasionally offer promotional codes for discounts. Promotional codes:

  • Must be applied at the time of subscription
  • Cannot be retroactively applied to existing subscriptions
  • May have expiration dates and usage limits
  • Cannot be combined with other offers unless explicitly stated
  • Are non-transferable and have no cash value

9.2 Discount Duration

Unless otherwise specified, promotional discounts apply only to the first billing cycle. Subsequent renewals will be charged at the standard rate.

10. Invoices and Receipts

10.1 Automatic Invoicing

An invoice will be automatically generated and emailed to you after each successful payment. Invoices include:

  • Date and amount of payment
  • Subscription plan details
  • Applicable taxes (including VAT)
  • Payment method (last 4 digits)

10.2 Invoice Access

You can access all your invoices at any time from your billing portal. Invoices can be downloaded as PDF files.

10.3 VAT Invoices

For UK-based businesses, we provide VAT invoices showing the VAT amount separately. Ensure your billing address and VAT number (if applicable) are correct in your account settings.

11. Termination by Regulus

11.1 Our Right to Terminate

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate your subscription immediately if you:

  • Violate our Terms of Use
  • Engage in fraudulent activity or abuse the Service
  • Fail to pay subscription fees after multiple attempts
  • Use the Service for illegal purposes

11.2 Effect of Termination

If we terminate your subscription:

  • Your access to the Service is immediately revoked
  • No refund is provided for unused time or credits
  • Your data will be deleted in accordance with our data retention policy
